PAINTING AND RECOATING Parex USA Finishes often retain their luster over time. However, Parex USA acrylic finishes can be recoated with Parex USA DPR Coating or Elastomeric Coating if required. Coatings will change the texture and shine of the original finish, so keep that in mind. Recoat Gel is not intended to change the texture. This is especially critical if the coating will be applied over the existing sand or sand fine finish. Some texture may be lost because of the aggregate size in these finishes. It is advised that a physical sample be utilized when matching the color of an existing Parex USA finish because existing aged finishes may have changed slightly from the original hue.
The previous finish should be clean and dry. Parex USA Coatings can be applied using a brush, roller, or spray equipment (follow the product data sheet for application). In general, coatings provide good surface coverage over existing finishes in single applications. However, depending on the texture and/or color of the current finish, two coats may be required. When using a roller for a single application, apply the coating in vertical strokes, overlapping each stroke by half a roller width. Apply the first layer in horizontal passes and allow it dry for two coats. The second coat should be applied at a right angle to the first coat in the same manner as a single coat.
REFINISHING AND RESURFACING It is recommended that a physical sample be sent to the Parex USA Color Department for examination and matching if the finish material must be carefully color-matched to the previous work. Even so, due to age or differences in the texturing technique of the applicators, the new finish may appear slightly different than the original finish. If a wall surface must be restored, resurfacing a panel or larger section to an existing break or termination may provide a more acceptable appearance than a smaller patch area.
Refinishing, according to Patching and Repairing, should be left to an applicator with past experience with Parex USA Materials. One of the methods indicated above must be used to clean the area first. Second, on the clean and dry existing finish, apply a skim coat of Parex USA base coat (Cementitious/Acrylic type) to a consistent thickness with a stainless steel trowel to thoroughly fill the voids caused by the original texture. If more impact resistance is wanted or reinforcing mesh is required to repair additional places, insert reinforcing mesh as indicated into the wet base coat using the installation instructions from the Parex USA EIFS application Guide. If the original work was primed, use Parex USA Primer to improve the color consistency and trowelability of the new finish.
Follow the instructions on the Parex USA Product Data Sheet for the precise finish and texture desired while applying the new finish. Sealants and flashing The first sign of water entering the building should signal an issue, which should be addressed as quickly as feasible. EIFS systems, like other wall claddings, rely on flashing and sealants to prevent moisture from entering behind the cladding’s face.
As a result, it is a good idea to verify the installation at these crucial points on a regular basis:
- The edges of windows and doors.
- Joints for expansion
- Adjudications of different materials
- Penetrations around fixtures, hose bibs, outlets, scuppers, and so on.
- Wall terminations at the top and bottom
- Intersections of sidewalls and roof lines Sealant joints may need to be removed and replaced for repairs.
